What a joy to see our animation campaign recognised on a larger stage – having it selected for screening at a prestigious animation festival is an honour we deeply cherish!

We’re excited to share that My Ruff Day was selected and screened at the 2024 SPARK Animation Festival! This first episode of our three-part series, alongside Fireworks Fiasco and Pawparazzi, is part of a heartfelt 3D animation campaign crafted in collaboration with The Artemis Agency and Petco Love.

About SPARK Animation Festival

Spark Animation Festival 2024, organised by Spark CG in Vancouver, is a globally recognised event that celebrates the artistry and creativity of animation. The festival showcases a diverse lineup of animated films across genres and demographics, from independent shorts to feature films and groundbreaking projects in various formats.

More than just a screening event, SPARK Animation also offers panels, workshops, and presentations from industry leaders, sharing insights into the latest trends and technological advancements in animation. This festival serves as a vibrant hub not only for established professionals but also for emerging talents to connect, exchange knowledge, and explore the future of animation in entertainment, advertising, and interactive media.

Having My Ruff Day selected is an incredible honour and a meaningful milestone for the entire SuperPixel team, and we’re thrilled to be part of this event.

The journey of My Ruff Day

Petco Love and The Artemis Agency entrusted us with bringing their vision for My Ruff Day to life as part of their heartfelt campaign. The inspiration for this campaign stems from the powerful bond between pets and their families and the supportive communities that embrace them. Our role was to capture this emotional connection – a bond that brings warmth, relatability, and impact to the story – and translate it into animation and storytelling. As storytellers and pet parents ourselves, this connection guided every aspect of the project, from storyboarding, and character designing, to the film’s overall direction.

Creating My Ruff Day was a truly collaborative journey. We began by sharing personal stories, brainstorming ideas, and conducting careful research to ensure each detail felt authentic. From Boomer’s signature flappy ear to Ellie’s thoughtfully chosen outfits, every element was crafted to reflect the campaign’s vision and resonate with audiences.

Collaborating with Petco Love and The Artemis Agency made the experience even more rewarding. Bringing Boomer’s character to life was further enriched by the incredible voice talent of Jonathan Taylor Thomas – known for voicing Simba in The Lion King – whose performance added an extra layer of nostalgia and warmth. Despite the challenges of coordinating with an international team across time zones, clear communication and a shared commitment to excellence ensured the project’s success, even within a tight schedule.

The festival experience

Seeing My Ruff Day showcased on the big screen at SPARK Animation Festival was an unforgettable, almost surreal experience for our team. Sharing our work alongside other inspiring projects was both humbling and exhilarating.

One of the festival’s highlights was watching the audience’s real-time reactions – their engagement, connection, and appreciation for the story were truly heartwarming. We also had the chance to connect with other industry professionals and received positive feedback on the campaign’s storytelling approach and visual style, which resonated with viewers as we’d hoped. It was a meaningful experience that reaffirmed our passion for creating stories that connect.

Gratitude and acknowledgments

This recognition would not have been possible without Petco Love’s inspiring vision of creating a campaign that blends creativity with a meaningful purpose. We’re deeply grateful to Petco Love and The Artemis Agency for their trust and support throughout this journey.

A heartfelt thanks to our talented team and partners, whose dedication and passion transformed this series into something vibrant and heartfelt. Their artistry transformed each story into vibrant, warm visuals that connect with audiences in a truly special way.
