Carrabean Premier League

3D Character Design Animation

For the Caribbean Premier League, one of the Caribbean’s major T20 cricket tournaments, we reimagined its broadcast characters into a fresh 3D world built for screen. CPL is known for combining high-energy cricket with strong entertainment value and regional personality, so the challenge was to create characters that could match that same sense of excitement, identity, and on-air impact.

We took a set of iconic broadcast characters from 2D into 3D for screen.

The aim was to keep each character recognisable, while adding more depth, expression, and movement on air.

Then, we refined the silhouettes, personality, and motion so the cast felt familiar, but more polished on screen.

Character Design Process

Each character was approached with close attention to their visual identity, personality, and cultural cues. From the Drummer to Moko Jumbie, the direction drew from bold Caribbean influences and expressive performance-based character traits, helping the cast feel distinctive and rooted in the world they belong to.

The 3D design approach focused on giving the characters more depth, material richness, and visual clarity without losing the graphic charm of the originals.
We refined proportions, surfaces, and details so each model felt strong enough for close-up moments, while still reading clearly in fast edits and animated transitions.

The Results

The final result was a more refined 3D broadcast animation system that felt stronger on screen and more consistent across the full broadcast package.

Transitions landed more cleanly. Character movement felt more expressive. And the overall system gave CPLT20 a more polished on-air presence across key match moments.

This helped create:

  • a stronger visual identity for sports broadcast
  • more dynamic and readable broadcast character animation
  • smoother transitions between segments
  • a more cohesive broadcast graphics system across the wider package

More importantly, the update was not just visual. It gave CPLT20 a character system better suited to the pace and scale of modern sports broadcast animation.
